Hitting Fitness Goals With A Life Coach

Posted on Updated on

Health and fitness journeys can be a gradual and unspectacular process. This was the case for one determined individual who is now an inspiring life coach: During the course of her 20s, bit by bit, she started making positive changes in the approach to looking after herself.

Twenty years later, it’s a journey that continues – and one that has never been regretted. Yet for so many people, the idea of taking the first step toward improving their physical wellbeing seems almost as exotic as a trip to the moon.

Such a journey can lead to some unexpected places. There are many things that can be explored for the purpose of improving health: one can live in yoga schools in India and Thailand, go swimming for lap after lap in the local pool, hike up and down mountains, or experiment with diet, acupuncture and Reiki, to cite a few examples.

Of course, there’s also the option of going to the gym, and you may find that it really isn’t so bad at all! Fortunately, for many, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a solo journey; in a life coach community, there’s a lot of mutual support, and an appreciation that this is a truly worthwhile goal.

During the process of getting healthier, there is also the bonus of learning a lot about the role of the mind in the search for change and greater happiness. Unfortunately, for many people, unconscious self-sabotage is a constant challenge.

People living all around the world, for example, have a friend (or three) who has joined a gym, but has hardly ever been there. “I’m too busy,” they say – but not too busy for so many of the other activities life offers. Of course, for those who are serious about positive change, a life coach could be the answer!

And of course, it’s an issue that manifests in many different ways.

There are plenty of overweight people who would like to be slimmer, smokers who know that the perfect time to give up is now, and people suffering the effects of years of inactivity: low energy, low motivation, and low happiness levels.

As hinted above, a big part of the problem is the power of the unconscious mind to prevent change, and in some countries, life coaching often revolves around sidestepping – or simply changing – people’s internal programming.

Artificial VS Natural Honey Sweetener – Which Is Healthier and Safer?

Posted on

Several artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, acesulfame, saccharin, sucralose and are on the market today.

Many people think artificial sweetener is a better choice compared to natural sweeteners like honey. But it is important to understand the differences between these two sweeteners before choosing one to use.

The difference between artificial sweeteners and honey

Quite a few sweeteners have received negative reviews over the years because of their unnatural chemical ingredients. Some studies have shown that some can cause damage to nerve damage in the body and cause neurological problems. Many consider these artificial chemicals like toxins that are harmful to the body.

Unlike sweeteners, honey gets its natural sweeteners, from flowers and bees. This natural sweetener provides resistance to insulin lower compared to artificial sweeteners. This is one of the main differences between the two. The term insulin resistance means that there is a shortage of this hormone metabolism in the body.

Insulin is released into the body after consumption of food. When the insulin resistance is known in the cells of their bodies are insulin resistant, which results in the cells not being able to use very efficiently. Insulin is very important because it helps to regulate your appetite and helps the body to have a healthy metabolic rate.

Many people do not understand the importance of insulin levels healthy. The insulin levels tell the brain health, it is satisfied. If insulin levels are in the normal range, it can make you feel hungry and lethargic all the time, too. This is what happens when this metabolic hormone is inactive in your body.

Some scientists believe that some sweeteners are very addictive. Maybe you know someone who can not stop drinking soda? Natural honey contains no artificial ingredients addictive.

Honey has these beneficial qualities – Artificial sweeteners do not

* Honey has antibacterial components
* Honey contains antioxidants
* Honey contains vitamins and minerals
* Honey is natural

What to consider when artificial selection VS Honey natural sweetener

If you are looking to consume fewer calories, you can choose artificial sweeteners because most of them have no calories. Honey has about 21 calories per teaspoon. But if you are looking for a healthier alternative to artificial sweeteners, then you should consider honey.

Some people say that artificial sweeteners have an unpleasant aftertaste to them. Honey does not. Honey comes in a variety of flavors that many people love. And sugars in honey are all natural which means they are easier for the body to breakdown into energy when you need it.

Whatever your choice, remember that it may or may not be a healthy choice for you. Sure, it’s a good idea to talk with your doctor if you have questions about your insulin levels

Are Food Safety Certificates More Important Now Than A Generation Ago?

Posted on

People working with food for public consumption have always been assumed to have the necessary knowledge of how to serve safe food.
Yet many food industry workers have never in their working lives received proper formal food safety training but have merely followed the practices described or practiced by their mentors or employers.
A modern school of thought could be that today’s raw products of food production are far safer than in days gone by and hence formal food safety training is of less importance than would have been the case in generations gone by and yet in reality nothing could be further from the truth.
It is true that in past generations our basic food products were not as protected by modern packaging, processing, preservation and bacterial elimination methods, thus making the safer food assumption appear valid.
However never in the past have our constituents of food production had such a long and varied food chain from initial generation to final consumption.
Pathogenic bacteria whether aerobic or anaerobic multiply over time and the greater the number of processes in a food chain the greater the likelihood of error or mishap.
Raw food materials now made accessible by modern preservation techniques are no longer produced locally for imminent consumption but manufactured in countries sometimes known for poor food handling techniques and many are the recent events where criminal activity for profit has contaminated our food chain in one form or another.
As a result in most instances, raw foods supplied are safer than in the past at the moment of breaking the seal on their packaging, but their history of processing or contamination will catch up with them much sooner than was the case with foods that our parents worked with.
Hence simple food handling practices of days gone by may no longer be sufficient when related to producing food safe for public consumption in this modern world.
This is why the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health have issued their recommended syllabus of training that all food handlers should undergo and refresh on a three year cycle basis.
With financial penalties for serving foods that are injurious to health running into several thousands of pounds and the threat of prison sentences in cases of the extreme it can clearly be seen that:
Food Safety Training to attain a Food Safety Certificate for food handlers is more important now than a generation ago.

Demand for Healthy Beverage Drives Innovation in the Sector

Posted on

Until now, most beverage companies have focused on consumer preferences and hence have tried to deliver two key product attributes: quench people’s thirst and taste great! However, in today’s fast paced lives with people living under constant stress, consumers are demanding more from brands, driving beverage developers to come up with products that drive more intrinsic values for consumers – these makers are thus now adding nutrients to drinks to scale up the health quotient.
These drinks are touting health benefits, and with liquid nutrition rapidly gaining popularity, grocery stores and supermarkets too are lapping up this demand and devoting whole aisles to new beverages that claim to energize the mind, trim the waistline, cleanse and supercharge the body.
Analysis of beverage research reports indicated that the demand for healthy beverages in the marketplace is on the rise. All the sub-categories – nutritional, enhanced or functional have shown a growth trend. Additionally, the sales are marked by an undeniable accountability of the effects of packaging, processing and distribution. Though there has always been an ongoing debate about what comprises healthy, what is unhealthy, during the ‘Healthy beverage expo,’ held in Las Vegas in 2013, health drinks were defined as a nutritious and functional drink, made from high quality ingredients and pure water.
With consumers today seeking more variants and flavours, manufacturers too are embracing this realm dominated by consumer’s demands and delivering them drinks that are high on nutrition as well as cater to their taste buds.
Product positioning according to target demographics
Several food research reports on these leading functional drinks suggest that the beverage manufacturers design their takeaways keeping their specific demographics in mind. There are three critical audiences that were identified, namely the millennial, baby boomers and white female household gatekeepers between the ages of 40 and 55 for whom energy, satiety and relaxation through their drinks would be a key factor influencing purchase.
Accordingly, marketing strategies were devised based on the target audience profiling wherein, even the mode of marketing varied for the millennial and boomers since both are distinct target demographics with different attitudes towards health and wellness. The delivery form – shot style vs. glass bottle vs. aseptic cartons all were different. To cite an instance, despite having a reputation of being a generation focused on health and activity, baby boomers are actually in worse health than their parents which meant that their drinks packages needed to be designed such that they are easy to handle, open and pour.
On the other hand, an analysis of the soft drinks market research reports found that the next big target demographic is the millennials and the beverage market could not afford to overlook their demands. They are independent thinkers, who like choices and transparency in their products that further propelled the industry segment to include compelling stories about the brand when marketing them, thus trying to get the target segment to associate with the brand hoping to create customer loyalties.
Market analysts found that for a brand to be successful among this target group, it was necessary for the functional claims to be proven by science and supported by data that was further validated through social media and peer interaction since otherwise, chances are that this specific TG would not convert.
Using water as a base
The sector also discovered that this new generation of health drinks is all about using water as a base rather than using a nutrient rich fluid such as juice or milk. Beverage research reports studied indicated that water has far more nutritional benefits than just hydration. Experts claimed that water is the new standard, since it contained no calories, no artificial colors, flavors, or even sweeteners. This led to companies launching products like botanical infused waters or water with infused vitamins and minerals that would cater to the demands of the health conscious consumer.
Each of these formulations come with electrolytes, vitamins and functional ingredients that support the needs of the consumer. For example, Solixir Think drink includes ginkgo biloba leaf and rosemary that helps in revitalizing the mind and body, while Neuro brand of carbonated beverages has come up with formulations that promotes health and well-being, among many others.
These ranges of health-oriented beverages are actually driving the functional revolution with consumers who demand specific nutrients in their beverage. Companies are thus looking to find out innovative methods for not only nutrient content but also packaging and marketing that will be able to communicate directly with the health conscious consumer.
Giving in to these changing consumption trends, as more companies keep adding ingredients, flavours and newer marketing practices, innovation and growth is inevitable of the sector – the key factor that seems to be driving the segment forward on a global scale.

How to Get Children to Eat Healthy Food

Posted on

The challenge most parents face is trying to get their children eating healthy food. The subject of healthy eating is always a battle or a struggle between parent and child, and many times both parties become upset and frustrated.

The easiest way to get children eating healthy food is to start them young. Children form their eating habits before the age of ten. As a parent, focus on these formative years, and shape their eating habits early. Always serve healthy food in your home, and pack healthy lunches and snacks for your children.

When you are in someone else’s home, be polite by eating their food, but teach your children how to spot healthier options, and encourage them to go for those options. While they’re still very young, give them no choice and they will probably not mind at all.

Another easy way to get children eating healthy food is to get them interested in healthy foods. Do this by having a range of healthy choices in your house.

If you have many different kinds of food, but all healthy, then you won’t have to worry about your children making the wrong choice.

Also, introduce new foods like tofu, different fruit, and vegetables often. Consistently having a new fruit or vegetable once a week should be enough to spark your children’s interest in the food groups.

Play games with your children, and have fun with colorful fruit. You can make fruit men with your children, getting them interested in many fruits!

It is important to remember setting an example for your children. You may impose all these rules, but if you don’t follow them yourself then your children will see that they won’t have to follow them someday either. During their younger years, children want to be just like their parents.

If you show them that you eat healthy and you enjoy it, they will want to do the same. Even when your children aren’t around, choose the healthier option. It’ll be good practice for you and good for your health too!

When taking on the healthy eating endeavor, remember to be consistent. ALWAYS eat healthy and choose the healthy option. When you go out to restaurants, choose the healthy option for your kids, and show them how to choose the healthy options.

Being consistent is the key to having children that eat healthy all the time. If you eat healthy food at home, but let your children eat unhealthy choices when they’re away from home, they’re likely to develop a taste for food they shouldn’t be eating. So be consistent and it will pay off!

Finally, talk to your children. Get them to understand why you choose and eat the foods you have at home and in restaurants. If your children are past the age of ten, call a family meeting and talk about how you can all eat healthier.

If you hadn’t started healthy eating habits early, make it a family endeavor and work as a team. Learn how to minimize your fast food, junk food, and microwave ready food slowly but surely. Even if you didn’t start them young, healthy eating is always within your and your children’s reach.
